Khaleed Oladipo, a 20-year-old Nigerian student, has been killed following a stabbing in Leicester, United Kingdom.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the Leicestershire Police said Oladipo, who was “studying cyber security at De Montfort University,” died on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
Harper Dennis, aged 18, has been charged following the death of Oladipo.
The police said Dennis, of “North Road, West Drayton, London, has been charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. These charges relate to the death of 20-year-old Khaleed Oladipo.”
The teenager will appear at the Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
“He has also been charged with two counts of possession of an offensive weapon in a private place – these charges are unrelated to the murder investigation,” the statement added.
An earlier statement by the police also included a tribute by Oladipo’s family
According to the family, “We cannot begin to put into words how sad we are to have lost Khaleed. He was an extremely loved son, brother, uncle, boyfriend and friend.
“Khaleed was a good boy who loved his family. He was in his second year at university, and we were so proud of him.
“One of his main passions was football and he had played since the age of four. He was an Arsenal supporter and we believe he was on his way home to watch the game later that night when he was stabbed and killed.
“We want to thank the members of the public who stopped to try and help Khaleed and the ambulance service and hospital staff who did all they could to try and save him.
“We are also really grateful to the police for their efforts in the investigation so far to ensure the person responsible is brought to justice. We are struggling to understand why anyone would do this. We know getting justice for Khaleed will not bring him back but we will make sure that he gets the justice he deserves.”
Expressing sadness over the incident, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), described the incident as “a painful loss to both the Oladipo family and the Nigerian community at home and in the diaspora.”
In a statement by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, NiDCOM spokesperson, Dabiri-Erewa “also called on UK authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and justice for the deceased, while reiterating NiDCOM’s commitment to the welfare and protection of Nigerians in the diaspora community.”
