#NigeriaDecides2027: INEC Fixes Dates for Presidential, Governorship Polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed February 20, 2027, for the presidential and national assembly elections.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this at a press briefing on Friday in Abuja.

The commission has also fixed March 6, 2027, for governorship and state assembly elections.

“The timely announcement of the election date allows political parties, civil society organisations, and the electorate to prepare adequately,” Amupitan said.

“As we commence this important national exercise, I assure Nigerians that the Commission is fully prepared and determined to deliver elections that reflect the sovereign will of the people.”

He urged political parties to ensure that they work towards the smooth conduct of the elections.

The INEC Chairman added that the formal announcement of the date follows strict compliance with the provisions of the Constitution and Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which provides that the dates be released not later than 360 days before the election date.
